Yesterday “gobble” showed up in the vocabulary list of the Thanksgiving worksheet I handed out to a class of kiddos. Being the “newbie” teacher that I am, I mistakenly decided to demonstrate the meaning of said word by repeating it with a funny high-pitched voice while doing my best turkey imitation…. in front of a room full of 7-year-olds….
Let’s just say that after my demonstration I don’t think much else got accomplished during the remainder of class ;-). (Even a day later I still have a never-ending stream of “gobble gobble” ringing in my ears!)
Though I’m away from home and won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving with the traditional family meal, I decided that I should dedicate part of this day celebrating my country’s holiday (in a way other than accidentally converting my students into crazed “gobble” monsters) 😉
So, instead of eating turkey and taking Grandma June to the movies with my mom and dad, I’m going to celebrate Thanksgiving here in Spain by thinking about what I’m thankful for – which, in this case, is YOU! 🙂
Truly, I appreciate dearly all of you who, every week, dedicate part of your day to reading this blog. One of the main reasons I started TRIS was to maintain a connection between myself and all my friends and family in the US. By reading and commenting you help me to feel like that not only what I have to say is important, but also that you haven’t forgotten about me and you still care about what’s going on in my life.
And believe me, I haven’t forgotten about you guys! I know it’s easy to get caught up in life and sometimes (I’m certainly guilty of this) weeks or ever months can pass without communicating with certain friends or family members. Even though this is sometimes the case, just know that you all still mean so much to me.
To every single person out there who has ever spent some time checking out TRIS: Thank you. Your support is one of the main factors that keeps me positive and moving forward over here! I promise to maintain this blog as long as I’m living overseas as my little way of updating you and letting you know that I’m thinking of you despite the ocean between us!
To conclude, I wish you all (Spaniards and Americans alike) a very Happy Thanksgiving. Remember too that even though it seems like I only like to talk about myself around here 😉 (it is my blog after all!) that in reality I would love to hear more about you guys! If you ever feel like it, I’m always in the mood to hear about your updates – via e-mail, Skype, Facebook, snail mail, text… whatever! – so send them my way if you ever get the chance 😉
Enjoy the holiday weekend! I’m so thankful to have all of you in my life. 🙂
